"If there were 6 stars, Donnie Jackson would earn them for his patience and exceptional help that he gave me with the purchase of my new Subaru Outback. I began an e-mail exchange with Donnie more than 8 months ago. He answered all of my questions but I was afraid to pull the trigger and purchase a new car. "It was cold, very cold.. but also my only day off of the week. Went to 7 lots in Durham, Cary, and Raleigh looking for a car. Already had a check from my credit union just needed to find a car. Not one salesman even came out to meet us while we were at any of the dealerships until we got to Southern States in Raleigh where Paul Marchetti come out in the cold and greeted us. Now no one likes a sales name bugging them non-stop while they are looking at cars but for no one else to even say hello? It was a huge turn off for me....Paul coming outside that night is the reason I bought a car from him the next day. "I should probably take my temperature to make sure I don't have a fever, because this can't be me, giving a very good review to a car dealer repair center. 

I have this theory (one that has been challenged by others, usually males, in my life) The theory is that if you let a mechanic "fix" your car it will lead to, uh, well, PROBLEMS. This theory has played out in reality more times than I can say, so when I HAD to take my car to Southern States Hyundai for some recall work as well as warranty work, in order to pass state inspection, I felt like a sitting duck.

I will say I was impressed driving into their repair warehouse (it's nice) Greeted warmly. But wasn't sure if I was being trussed for baking. The next day the phone call came. Brake lights that were out could be fixed by warranty. Other recall work could be done, BUT they were worried about my this and my that. Knowing the car had fifty thousand miles on it, had done some rough trips and they just might be right, I agreed to $400 worth of flushing, manicures, pedicures, and other conditioning enhancements (sorry, I don't remember nor know the lingo, I just want my car to purr like a kitten and not break down on 540 somewhere, ya know?)

Anyway, I can say this is the ONLY time I've ever picked up my car where it was LESS than they had quoted on the phone. Still not cheap, but ironically it did kinda purr for awhile. Then two weeks later, dah dah dah dum...(theory theory)...something else goes wrong with my car. Take it back. It spends all day there. They fix it. I go to pick it up. Get in, turn the AC knob and the fan (that they had supposedly just fixed) is NOT working. They take it back in. They juggle some stuff, order another part, and I go my temporarily rigged way, only to have it mess up on me along with a turn signal that suddenly disappeared on I-40....THEORY THEORY. Had to rent a car because we were going out of town for the weekend, and not having a turn signal isn't smart. (TIP, Price line...$15 a day for a mid-size, but still, I shouldn't have needed a rental car).

To make a long story short, when I took it back one more time, they got it all right. NOTE, I NEVER had to pay another cent. I never paid for ANY of these repairs (see Hyundai warranty...WONDERFUL). And for my troubles, they even detailed my car before I picked it up the last time! (ever had car repair do something EXTRA for free? First time for me too!) I have now waited several weeks to make sure my THEORY wouldn't happen again. It has not, and I sorta hang my head in shame. I do wish they had told me the first time I was there, rather than last, that they have FREE shuttle service to work, so I wouldn't have had to bother so many people for rides. 

In conclusion...I am forced to TRUST a car dealer for auto repair. Was it fool-proof? No. But I now believe their INTENT is good and genuine, and that's all we can ask (hope) for. And they could not have been nicer either."
